Arriving early is recommended to secure a good location in the more protected areas. Be mindful of other vessels, as this bay can get busy.

Wind and Waves: Chowder Bay is also well-protected from most wind directions, similar to Taylors Bay, with its best protection from southerly and westerly winds. However, it can be somewhat exposed to easterly winds, so be cautious of conditions if these winds are forecasted.

Anchoring Tips: Anchor in the shallow areas near the rocks on the southern side of the bay to take advantage of the calm, clear waters, but be mindful of your depth.

Collins Flat is a fantastic choice for anchoring when conditions are better suited to the other side of the bay, allowing boaters to adjust based on wind direction.

Wind and Waves: Both Q Station and Collins Flat anchorages are well-protected from southerly, easterly and northerly ocean swell, creating calm waters in most conditions. Q Station is best sheltered from south and southeasterly winds, while Collins Flat Beach provides great protection from northerly winds. In westerly winds both these anchorages are not protected.

Anchoring Tips: These anchorages are spacious and generally well-protected, but strong westerly winds can leave the area somewhat exposed. Arriving early is recommended, especially on weekends, to secure an ideal spot. It is important to anchor within the required area so as not to damage the surrounding wildlife reserve; anchoring zones are well-marked with yellow buoys. Collins Flat Beach is a particularly shallow sandy anchorage, be mindful of your depth on a falling tide.

Anchoring Tips: Manly Cove can get busy, so secure your spot early. Be mindful of ferry operations, as the area can experience wash.

Wind and waves: Shelly Beach may be protected from Southerly and South-Westerly winds but the thing you need to be most mindful of is the swell. Heading to Shelly Beach is only recommended when there is very light offshore swell.
