HOW DOES BOAT SYNDICATION WORK?

BOAT SYNDICATION – A FRESH APPROACH TO BOAT OWNERSHIP

Boat syndication offers a modern, cost-effective way to enjoy high-quality boat ownership without the full financial commitment or responsibilities of sole ownership. This model allows a group of co-owners to collectively invest in the purchase and maintenance of a vessel, making luxury boating accessible and affordable. Each owner enjoys the benefits of boat ownership—regular access, high-quality vessels, and the freedom of life on the water—at a fraction of the usual cost.

At COBLI, we bring a fresh approach to boat syndication that maximizes your time on the water and minimizes the usual stresses associated with boat ownership. Our equity boat syndication structure provides a seamless, walk-on, walk-off experience, so all you need to do is arrive and enjoy. By handling all maintenance, cleaning, and management, we allow our owners to fully immerse themselves in the boating lifestyle.

WHAT IS EQUITY BOAT OWNERSHIP?

Equity boat ownership, also known as equity boat syndication, yacht syndication, or simply boat share, is the model of boat sharing that COBLI offers. This approach allows you to invest as a co-owner in a premium vessel, becoming an equity stakeholder with shared ownership rights and responsibilities.

With COBLI, you purchase a percentage share of a boat, which means you share the upfront purchase cost, as well as the ongoing expenses for maintenance, berthing, and running costs with a select group of co-owners. This setup not only lowers the upfront cost of the boat but also ensures that the ongoing financial responsibilities are distributed, making boating accessible and hassle-free.

At the end of the syndication term, the vessel is sold on behalf of the co-owners and each stakeholder receives a share of the net proceeds based on their equity percentage, allowing you to recoup a portion of your investment.

OWNERSHIP VS. MEMBERSHIP

WHY EQUITY MATTERS IN BOAT SYNDICATION

When exploring ways to enjoy a boat, you may come across both boat syndication (ownership) and boat memberships. While both options provide access to boating, they offer very different experiences and benefits.

With equity boat syndication, you’re not just renting or joining a membership club—you actually own a share of the vessel. This means you invest in a percentage of the boat itself, sharing the initial purchase price, as well as any maintenance, berthing, and operating costs, with other owners. At the end of the syndication term, the boat is professionally sold, and you receive a share of the proceeds based on your equity stake. This ownership model allows you to benefit from any resale value, making it a financially smarter option in the long term compared to membership-only models.

In contrast, boat memberships typically offer access to a fleet of boats for a recurring fee without providing any ownership stake. Membership programs offer flexible access, but you don’t hold equity in a particular vessel, so there’s no opportunity to recoup costs through resale value. Additionally, membership boats often have a higher rotation of users, which may affect the condition of the vessels and limit your access during peak times.

In short, equity boat ownership with syndication is ideal for those who want both access and investment value, allowing you to enjoy the boating lifestyle with the added benefit of equity return at the end of your term.
